Research Theme 1
🌍 People & Services
Examining the foundational services that shape human lives across Africa
About This Research Theme
Human development begins with people’s ability to access the basic services they need to live healthy, educated and dignified lives. This research theme examines the coverage, quality and equity of essential services across Africa — with a focus on the groups most often left behind.
Our research asks: who has access to clean water, healthcare, schooling and nutritious food — and who does not? What structural, geographic and gender-based barriers prevent equitable access? And what innovations and policies can close these gaps sustainably?
