Policy Theme 3
🌍 Climate, Environment & Global Agendas
Amplifying Africa’s voice in global climate negotiations and advancing a just, sustainable development path
Africa at the Centre of the Planet’s Greatest Challenge
Africa contributes less than 4% of global greenhouse gas emissions yet faces some of the most severe consequences of climate change — from prolonged droughts and flooding to food insecurity and displacement. At the same time, Africa holds extraordinary potential: vast renewable energy resources, the world’s largest tropical forests, and a young population ready to lead a green economy transition. The policy decisions made now will determine which future Africa inherits.
Afrodevelopment’s work in this area focuses on building Africa’s evidence base for climate policy, strengthening the continent’s voice in global forums such as the UNFCCC and the SDG review process, and identifying the financing, technology transfer and policy frameworks needed to support a just transition.
